Music in Your Life

WHY WE TEACH MUSIC

“Not because we expect you to major in music;
Not because we expect you to sing all your life;
Not so you can relax, not so you can have fun;

But so you will be…human. So you will recognize beauty. So you will be sensitive. So you will be closer to an infinite beyond this world. So you will have something to cling to. So you will have more love, compassion, gentleness, good–in short, more life!

Of what value will it be to make a prosperous living unless you know how to live?”

There are many ways you can have music in your life and many advantages to having music in your life. Here are some links and some thought-provoking ways to enrich your life with music!

  • Consider the importance of Music as part of your child’s education. Numerous studies have been done that prove that learning music and/or learning to play a musical instrument can improve intelligence, develop motor skills, improve thinking and concentration. Here are a few articles if you need convincing!

Just one article from http://www.edarticle.com/article.php?id=145 sums this up very well:

“Music requires study skills, communication skills, and cognitive skills and as these are learnt and developed they expand the student’s abilities in other academic areas and help them become better students. – Students with coursework/experience in music performance and music appreciation scored higher on the SAT : students in music performance scored 57 points higher on the verbal and 41 points higher on the math, and students in music appreciation scored 63 points higher on verbal and 44 points higher on the math, than did students with no arts participation.” — College-Bound Seniors National Report: Profile of SAT Program Test Takers.
